ROHS, REACH, & CONFLICT MINERALS

SBC builds PC Boards and Assemblies that meet Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), or Lead-Free requirements. The RoHS Directive currently applies to products in Categories 1 through 7. Categories 8 and 9 are exempted from compliance. RoHS specifies maximum levels for the following 10 restricted materials:

  • Lead (Pb): < 1000 ppm
  • Mercury (Hg): < 1000 ppm
  • Cadmium (Cd): < 100 ppm
  • Hexavalent Chromium: (Cr VI) < 1000 ppm
  • Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB): < 1000 ppm
  • Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE): < 1000 ppm
  • Bis(2-Ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP): < 1000 ppm
  • Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP): < 1000 ppm
  • Dibutyl phthatate (DBP): < 1000 ppm
  • Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP): < 1000 ppm

SBC complies with the EU Directive requirements listed below:

1. Directive 2003/11/EC (24th amendment to 76/769/EC) – Hazardous Chemicals Restriction on marketing and use of dangerous substances using pentabromodiphenyl ether (PentaBDE), octabromo-diphenyl ether (octaBDE), or any diphenylether pentabromo or octabromo derivative (CHBrO), which are usually used for flame-retardants in plastics beginning August 15, 2004.

2. Directive 2003/53/EC (26th amendment to 76/769/EC) Hazardous Chemicals Restriction on marketing and use of dangerous substances – nonylphenol, nonylphenol ethoxylate, and cement containing chromium VI beginning January 17, 2005.

3. Directive 2002/95/EC – RoHS requires producers of electrical and electronic equipment to eliminate the use of six environmentally-sensitive substances: lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium; and the use of PBB and PBDE flame retardants, in electrical and electronic products beginning July 1, 2006.

4. Directive 2011/65/EU -DIRECTIVE 2011/65/EU OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 8 June 2011 on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.

5. Directive 2015/863 was published in 2015 by the EU, which is known as RoHS 3. RoHS 3 adds four additional restricted substances (phthalates) to the list of six.

6. Reach: EU regulation EC 1907/2006 which covers the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemical substances is an EU regulation that became effective on June 1, 2007. The purpose of this legislation is to ensure human and environmental health by regulating Substances of Very High Concern, or SVHC’s. None of SBC’s end products consist of raw materials or substances in concentrations above the minimum contained in EC 1907/2006. SBC is not required to provide safety data sheets to our end users as SBC is compliant and monitors supplier changes.

Reach at South Bay Circuits; we strive to use only chemical substances that help reduce the impact on human and environmental health. All state, federal, and local laws are also followed to ensure we produce REACH friendly products to reduce the effects on our community and the world.

Conflict Minerals Policy Statement

Due to violence and human rights violations in the mining of certain minerals from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and surrounding countries, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has implemented reporting and disclosure requirements for Conflict Minerals, as directed by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010.

South Bay Circuits is not required to report to the SEC as we are a privately held small business. SBC does provide a completed Conflict Minerals Reporting template. We are committed to the sourcing of “Conflict Free Minerals” through our suppliers to comply with the SEC rules and regulations with Conflict Minerals.
